$240M Project Would Replace Bronzeville’s Provident Hospital

Cook County Health (CCH) has applied to replace the current Provident Hospital with a new facility at a cost of $240 million. The plan calls for building an inpatient and outpatient facility on a vacant parcel immediately west of and adjacent to the current hospital at 500 E. 51st St. in the South Side’s Bronzeville neighborhood.

“The construction of a new facility represents a true and lasting commitment to the patients we serve and our greater community,” said Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County board president.  “It is not just about replacing outdated facilities, but about the promise this project brings to people in Cook County who are in need of expert health care.”

CCH expects that the new facility will reduce the number of Provident patients having to travel to the John H. Stroger Jr. campus in East Garfield Park for services not currently provided at Provident.
