$3M “Challenge” Gift for Psychiatric Unit Development

Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas in Austin received a $3 million “challenge” donation from the family of Nyle Maxwell to develop a 24-bed, inpatient unit to treat children with mental health needs. The addition will be called the Grace Greso Mental Health Unit at Dell Children’s, and is named after Maxwell’s mother.

Seton Health Care, which operates the hospital at 4900 Mueller Blvd., expects to begin construction on the new unit within the next six months. The total cost of construction is anticipated to be approximately $7 million, with the remaining money to come from donations and fundraising. The new unit will be on Dell Children’s second floor, with the construction involving remodeling existing inpatient rooms.
