Five Orange County cities were ranked among the 20 wealthiest large cities in the nation by NerdWallet, which studied 475 cities with populations exceeding 65,000. The criteria included high levels of median household income, median home values, percentage of homes without mortgages and average credit scores.
The highest-ranked city in Southern California was Newport Beach at No. 4, with a median income of $106,801. Homes cost a median $1.56 million, 31% have no mortgage, and average credit limits are $82,811.
Yorba Linda was sixth, Laguna Niguel was seventh, San Clemente was 11th, and Mission Viejo was 16th.
Three Northern California cities claimed the top spots in the rankings. Palo Alto was top-ranked, followed by San Ramon and Pleasanton.
