$50M Stadium Expansion Proposed in Portland

A $50-million expansion of Providence Park stadium in Portland, OR is being proposed by the Portland Timbers soccer team. The improvements at the downtown site involve the creation of a covered arcade, and expanding the street-level pedestrian area on SW 18th Ave.

The Portland City Council unanimously approved support of the proposed improvements at the 21,144-seat stadium, located at 1844 SW Morrison St. Roughly 4,000 new seats and four new levels will be added to the east side of the stadium, which will be privately financed by the team.

The city’s Design Commission requested additional details on the facade and the streetscape. The group will review the proposed plan again before the expansion design is finalized.

Construction could commence once the Major League Soccer season ends in October 2017, and be completed before the 2019 season, provided final approval is secured by September 2017.
