AECOM Plans Urban Reuse in Downtown San Bernardino

Los Angeles-based AECOM partnered with Newport Beach-based Fransen Co. to transform the Carousel Mall and surrounding buildings in downtown San Bernardino into a mixed-use project, with residential, retail and entertainment uses.

The plan is to build the revitalization project in phases, with subsequent phases funded from initial increased economic activity. Planners envision a thriving core with restaurants, factory outlets and other retail stores over loft-style apartments.

The upper floors of historic buildings on E St. would be converted into residential units. Also planned are a cluster of townhouses that would anchor a corner of the mall block, which will be reopened to provide easier access.
