Akridge Sets Ground Breaking on $250M DC MXU

A development team that includes Akridge, Western Development Corporation, Orr Partners, Redbrick LMD, and Jefferson Apartment Group is set to commence construction in Q2 2018 on a $250-million mixed-use development in Washington, DC’s Buzzard Point. River Point will include nearly 500 multifamily units and 80,000 square feet of restaurant and retail at 2100 Second St. SW.

Redevelopment of the former U.S. Coast Guard HQ site will also encompass waterfront activities with new piers and floating restaurants. The project is expected to reinvigorate the neighborhood, connecting it with the new Audi Field, D.C. United’s new stadium, the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail, as well as other developments along the Capitol Riverfront.

The first phase will involve gutting the vacant, 1970s-era, 609,265-square-foot office building. When River Point is fully built out by 2020, the massive concrete Transpoint structure will be transformed into a high-end residential and retail development along the the Anacostia River.
