Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has signed on to become the first tenant at the 30-acre, mixed-use Monteverde development on El Paso’s east side. Local company EPT Land Communities is developing the $80-million Monteverde at Joe Battle Boulevard and Pellicano Drive, near the Socorro Student Activities Complex.
The new movie theater, the second in El Paso, is scheduled to open in early 2020. Triple Tap Ventures LLC, the Houston company that owns the Alamo franchise for West Texas and Houston, indicated that its first operation, in the Montecillo Smart Growth community in West El Paso, exceeded expectations since opening in May 2016.
The new Alamo Drafthouse will be approximately 30% larger than the 35,000-square-foot West Side cinema. The auditoriums will also be larger than that at the Montecillo Alamo, and will have luxury recliner seats.
