Algae Company Still Considers Longview Expansion

Medicinal algae producer Texasta is still considering the Longview area for potential expansion, even after initial plans didn’t work. The company had originally planned to expand in the Longview Economic Development Corp.’s (LEDCO) North Business Park, but the deal fell through. LEDCO had offered 10 acres and incentives for site development at the park.

The company currently employs 25 people in Gilmer, TX. The plant there produces astaxanthin, a naturally occurring algae used in the nutraceuticals industry. One of the Texasta owners indicated Longview was still in the plans, but that any kind of construction would not take place until after 2017.
