The 3,500-square-foot Amazon Books store opened in Westfield UTC mall in La Jolla, CA. It is the second brick-n-mortar location for the e-commerce giant, which opened its first offline offering in Seattle’s University Village 10 months ago.
Using the familiar comfort of a bookstore, Amazon plans to showcase a range of offerings. The company says integrating offline and online shopping is a way to to give customers additional options to find books, as well as devices and services.
Located in the Sears wing of the luxury mall, the store’s neighbors include high-end brands Tesla and Apple. Two more Amazon bookstores are planned for malls in Portland and Chicago.
