Amazon.com Inc. is eyeing the West Houston submarket in hopes of developing a one-million-square-foot distribution facility. If the project comes to fruition, the center could create 1,000 new jobs. Local sources suggested to Realty News Report that Amazon will be building the facility along Interstate 10, approximately 40 miles west of downtown Houston. The company requires at least 100 acres for the project.
Amazon is already building an 855,000-square-foot fulfillment facility in the north Houston submarket near Interstate 45 North and Beltway 8, in Hines’ Pinto Business Park. The Seattle-based e-commerce retailer has been taking on a national expansion program, resulting in the hire of 100,000 employees over the next 18 months.
