Amazon will build a distribution center in San Marcos, according to published reports. Known as SAT6, the warehouse is planned to be 1,005,000 square feet and will occupy roughly 71 acres in the Whisper Planned Development District on the north side of San Marcos.
Jim Welch, VP of Pape-Dawson Engineers Inc., told Community Impact that the project is projected to come on line in roughly nine months.
“This is, as you know, very, very time-sensitive,” Welch said. “We have to start right away, and we’re looking to be on line in September. So, even once we do start construction, our timeline is going to be extremely tight.”
The e-tailing giant has been in expansion mode across Texas throughout the pandemic. Within the Austin metro area, news of the San Marcos facility comes about five months after plans were announced for an 820,000-square-foot center in Pflugerville.
