Atlantic Bank Building Sees Rebirth as Boutique Hotel

The historic Atlantic Bank Building, vacant for a decade, will see new life as a boutique hotel named for a patron saint of travelers. The Julian Hotel Chicago, at 168 N. Michigan Ave., has been developed by locally-based Oxford Capital Group and London-based Quadrum Global. It’s due to open this October.

“The building had been an eyesore for many years, right on Michigan Avenue,” John Rutledge, president and CEO of Oxford Capital, told the Chicago Tribune. “We were excited to take it on because we love the challenge of complicated projects, and we believe the area between Randolph and the river has become a really important strip of Michigan Avenue.”

That stretch of Michigan Avenue happens to be located near Millennium Park, which has become an important Chicago tourist destination. Another boutique property, the St. Jane Chicago, recently opened nearby on the former site of the Hard Rock Hotel.
