An Austin developer is looking for approval from the city of Austin and Travis County to transform a sand and gravel quarry into a mixed-use development on the east side of the county. Dubbed Austin Green — for now — developer GroundWork is planning for 12,000 homes and apartments, and more than two million square feet of commercial space on 2,122 acres. The developer is an affiliate of MG Realty Investments and Momark Development.
Austin Green calls for a town center, moderately-priced housing and 700 acres of parks and open spaces. The city’s Imagine Austin plan indicated that the site would ideally accommodate between 10,000 and 30,000 residents, and offer between 5,000 and 20,000 jobs.
The site is at SH 130 and Harold Green Road, about one mile north of SH 71. The land is owned by Martin Marietta Materials, which acquired the acreage in 2014, after it bought Texas Industries Inc.
