Los Angeles-based Bernards, together with design partner DLR Group, LA County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, and the LA County Probation and LA County Public Works departments, celebrated the topping out of Campus Kilpatrick. The new $33.6-million (construction value), 65,000-square-foot residential treatment and rehabilitation camp for juvenile offenders is slated to open next year.
The facility focuses on improved outcomes for youths through small group program and living settings, with emphasis on education, skills acquisition, intervention, behavior modification, and relapse reduction.
This new complex, which replaces a 50-year-old juvenile detention facility, also aligns with an improved juvenile offender housing philosophy premised upon a more nurturing living environment. The new campus-style facility, located at 427 S. Encinal Canyon Rd., can accommodate 120 minors.
