Nobu Downtown, created by Chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, will open in April 2017 in a huge, 12,500 square-foot space at 195 Broadway, a landmark office tower in Manhattan’s Financial District.
The building just completed a $50 million retail redevelopment that divided its historic 50,000 square-foot lobby into three commercial spaces separated by 40-foot glass partitions. Nobu will include a 4,500 square-foot street-level bar and lounge, with a 187-seat dining room downstairs.
Lines of massive marble columns fill the lobby, and will frame the bar at Nobu. The plan needed approval from the City’s Landmarks Preservation Commission. “The boldness and innovation of Chef Nobu’s cuisine is a perfect match for the grandeur of 195 Broadway and the now fully-restored William Welles Bosworth-designed lobby,” said David Levinson, chairman and CEO of L&L Holding Company.
Retailer Anthropologie has claimed one of the other retail spaces at 195 Broadway.
