Boston Under Curfew Advisory as Peak Hospital Demand Approaches

The Boston Public Health Commission has issued an advisory urging residents to stay indoors between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. The voluntary curfew is among the new COVID-19 measures announced by Boston Mayor Martin Walsh, as the city faces peak demand for hospital facilities, now projected to occur on or around April 16.

Walsh also announced that city parks with recreational sports areas will be closed, and that police are empowered to disperse gatherings and order people to vacate closed sections of parks. Boston’s playgrounds have been closed since March 20.

“I cannot stress enough that the actions we take now through the next several weeks will help curb the spread of this virus, and save lives,” said Walsh.

Assuming that social distancing protocols are maintained through May, current projections show COVID-19-related hospital demand in Boston beginning to taper off after the mid-April peak, reaching near zero by Memorial Day.
