Brooklyn Navy Yard Eyes Room to Grow with 230K-SF Expansion

Connect Industrial is coming up on July 11 in Chicago. Here’s a link for more information about the conference and to register.

The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation and Steiner NYC will add 230,000 square feet of manufacturing and creative office space above the Navy Yard’s parking garage via a nine-story building that will rise at 399 Sands St. Groundbreaking on 399 Sands was held Wednesday, with the project receiving $40 million in city funds.

“We’re increasingly hearing from companies who want to be here not just because the Navy Yard provides an opportunity to sustain a business, but also to grow one,” said David Ehrenberg, president of the BNYDC. “With this investment, 399 Sands will be developed with exactly that sort of tenant in mind.”

Four of the nine floors at 399 Sands will be devoted to parking space, with another four floors for light manufacturing and the top floor holding creative office. The facility, which is expected to add 700 to 1,000 permanent jobs, is due for completion in 2021.
