California Ski Resorts Hope for Better Season

The weather has not been kind to California ski resorts. Drought conditions over the last few years have drastically cut the amount of snowfall these facilities usually enjoy.

There is hope, though, that an El Niño weather pattern could change that. At the Mountain High Resort in Wrightwood, outdoor enthusiasts woke up to an unseasonal inch of snow recently. If it keeps up, the multi-billion-dollar ski-resort industry in the state could see a resurgence, with hotels and restaurants adding needed business that they have lacked for quite some time.

The last El Niño, between 1997 and 1998, reportedly brought 310 inches of snow to California’s ski industry. A return to anywhere near that would be a welcome sight to skiers.
