Cannabis Company Buys CA Town, Plans Pot Paradise

The nation’s largest publicly-traded cannabis company acquired an entire town in San Bernardino County, with plans to transform it into a hospitality destination. American Green Inc. bought Nipton, a 100-year-old community situated on the border between California and Nevada.

“We are thrilled to begin work on this first-of-its-kind eco-tourism experience for conscious cannabis consumers,” says David Gwyther, chairman and president of American Green.

The Phoenix-based company is the first and only to purchase an entire town to capitalize on the growing cannabis tourism industry. It plans to cultivate and produce various cannabis-based products on Nipton’s 120 acres of developable land.

Initially, the company will bottle water from a nearby aquifer and infuse it with cannabidiol, or CBD. CBD is the chemical compound found in the cannabis plant that holds the highest medicinal value without producing any psychoactive effects.

Eventually, American Green wants to offer a variety of commercial and recreational attractions in Nipton, including CBD and mineral baths, cannabis-product retail outposts, artists-in-residence programs, culinary events, and B-and-B lodging.

Gwyther says the Cannabis Revolution that’s occurring in the U.S. has “the power to completely revitalize communities in the same way gold did during the 19th century.”
