Civic Builders has opened New York City’s first public charter school incubation space in the South Bronx’s Mott Haven neighborhood. The new school building is located at 411 Wales Ave., and will serve as the permanent home to Neighborhood Charter School: Bronx.
Costs for the project totaled $30 million. Major funders include Citi’s e for education Campaign, William E. Simon Foundation, and Walton Family Foundation. Investment partners include Chase, NYC Regional Center, The Community Builders, Low Income Investment Fund, Reinvestment Fund, and Nonprofit Finance Fund.
“The transformation of a former warehouse into a Neighborhood Charter School facility will create more opportunities for young residents in the Bronx to learn and grow,” said En Jung Kim, executive director, New Markets Tax Credit Group, Chase. “We’re proud to work with Civic Builders, providing a New Markets Tax Credit investment to help bring a high-quality educational program to the community.”
