Checkers and Rally’s is scouring the East Bay for up to 40 locations, as the Tampa, Fla.-based burger chain seeks to open what would be its first Bay Area restaurants. Expansion is being eyed in Oakland, because the company believes the market’s active nightlife could support that many restaurants.
The company hasn’t yet signed any leases or identified development sites, but it says interest is strong from potential franchisees. The company plans to close deals with at least two or three franchisees, and open two to five restaurants by the end of next year.
Checkers and Rally’s operates roughly 825 restaurants across the country, offering burgers, hot dogs, wings and milkshakes.
