Chicago Businesses Will Start Reopening June 3

Chicago is on track to transition to phase three of the Lightfoot administration’s framework for restarting the city’s economy and will begin reopening on Wednesday, June 3. The “cautiously reopening” third phase of the framework begins five days after Friday’s scheduled reopening everywhere statewide except for Chicago.

Phase three, which allows hotels, restaurants, retailers and other businesses to resume operations with restrictions, will still require strict physical distancing, the Lightfoot administration said Thursday. Municipal services that were closed to the public, including parks facilities and libraries, will begin reopening on Monday, June 8.

“Let’s be clear: Under no circumstances should our move to phase three be confused with this crisis being over, because it’s not,” Mayor Lori Lightfoot said at a news conference Thursday. “COVID-19 is still very much part of our present. I can’t emphasize this enough.” She added the risk of contracting the virus couldn’t be totally eliminated.
