The de Blasio administration’s $2.7 billion plan to build the BQX streetcar route between Brooklyn and Queens is back on the front burner. The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has launched a new website for the project, replete with a slate of public community workshops scheduled for February and March.
“Beyond this spring, we will be continuing engagement with stakeholders along the route as this project progresses,” according to the newly-launched BQX website. The NYCEDC plans to publish a draft scope in April or May, and conduct three public scoping hearings in May and June.
A draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) will follow in the spring of 2021, to be followed by the final EIS in fall 2021. The entire project would need to go through the city’s public-review process, and in the most recent proposal for the project, the completion date was moved from 2024 to 2029.
