Developer Collins Family Properties LLC received more than $500,000 in grant money to build 21 new low- to moderate-income housing units throughout the city of Amarillo. The grant came from the city’s community development, and was approved by the Amarillo City Council. The developer will build five single-family units and eight new duplex units at a total cost of $1 million.
While an exact construction date has not been set in stone, Colby Collins, a partner with Collins Family Properties, indicated that dirt work should begin by late February 2019. The units will take approximately six months to build, and each will contain three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The Director of Amarillo Community Development, Juliana Kitten, told the city council that there is a continual need for low-income housing, and that the city has never had a problem renting out the housing units.
