A groundbreaking recently took place on the $23 million Robert L.B. Tobin Land Bridge, which will span Wurzbach Parkway. The bridge, on which construction will begin in earnest in November 2018, is being developed to link Phil Hardberger Park on San Antonio’s north side. Project completion is scheduled for April 2020.
The 189-foot-long and 150-foot-wide bridge is being designed for use by animals and humans, making it a one-of-a-kind development. It will also offer a wheelchair-accessible trail, and is to be covered with native plants and trees, as well.
The bridge is not being built without controversy, however. Approximately $13 million of the funds being used to build the bridge is coming from money approved by voters in 2017. Some members of the public and elected officials have said that the money could be put to better use in less-affluent parts of San Antonio.
