German-based Continental opened a new 65,000-square-foot R&D center in San Jose, joining the Bay Area’s vibrant ecosystem of automotive industry innovation. The facility will play a key role in the next generation of mobility innovations and technologies, in particular surrounding clean energy, energy efficiency and self-driving vehicles.
The 145-year-old international company develops fuel efficiency programs, hybrid and electric drive components and systems. Its advanced automobile production initiatives range from information management inside and outside the vehicle, holistic connectivity between and around vehicles, as well as the human-machine interface.
The facility on North First Street features large garage bays, laboratories and workspaces for more than 300 engineers, programmers, designers and innovation experts across five divisions.
