Cook County assessor Fritz Kaegi has been confirmed as keynote speaker for Connect Chicago Fall 2019. The veteran financial manager and analyst has brought greater transparency—and, some would argue, higher assessments—to property valuations in Chicago and the surrounding county, and he’ll be on hand Oct. 29 to discuss his approach to the assessor’s office.
Prior to beginning his career in Cook County government, Kaegi spent more than 20 years valuing assets from a private-sector vantage point. In his 13 years at Columbia Wanger Asset Management, he served as a financial steward, helping average families save for retirement and focusing on small companies operating within a global market.
Since assuming office last year, Kaegi has focused on operational changes, technological upgrades and the elimination of favoritism. Highlights of his first six months in office included the public release of all assessment modeling code and data, an external audit by the International Association of Assessing Officers, the passage of a Data Modernization Bill in the Illinois Senate, and a new collaborative approach to property valuations to increase predictability and spur investment.
Kaegi will get the ball rolling at Connect Chicago Fall 2019 at 1:35 p.m. He plans to set aside some time for questions from the audience.
