Australian residential developer Crown Group unveiled the design for its $500-million mixed-use high-rise tower in Downtown Los Angeles. The 43-story project was designed by Koichi Takada Architects, in collaboration with MVE + Partners as executive architect. The project is expected to deliver in 2025.
The development will house 319 condominiums and a 160-room hotel at 1111 Hill St. The base of the building incorporates an elegant, sweeping canopy that engages with the street level and brings the high-rise down to the human level.
An innovative “living” façade incorporates natural wood and vertical landscaping, adding warmth and greenery to the downtown neighborhood. The live plantings also improve air quality. A sculptural element and live plantings sit atop the tower, suggesting a redwood tree crown branching out toward the sky, a first for a downtown building since the removal of helipad requirements.
