The City of Detroit signed a long-term lease for 98,615 square feet at the two existing office buildings at 100 Mack Ave. and 100 Eliot St. in Detroit’s SOMA (South of Mack Avenue) development project. The space formerly was occupied by the Michigan headquarters of the American Red Cross.

The SOMA project, at the southeast corner of Woodward and Mack avenues, is set to include mixed-use retail space, two parking structures with 500-plus spots each, multifamily development and the proposed 130-key West Elm Hotel, set to break ground in 2020.

“This is an amazing opportunity to bring a diverse set of offerings to all areas of the city and continue the revitalization beyond just the central business district,” said Friedman Real Estate’s Greggory Kent.

Kent and his colleagues, Robert Gagniuk and Steven Eisenshtadt, represented the landlord, which plans a town hall-style campus for the city agencies.
