Developer Plans $69M Coney Island Supportive Housing

The Concern for Independent Living will soon launch construction on a $69-million, 135-unit asset in Coney Island, NY. The nonprofit organization is teaming with affordable housing developer Georgica Green Ventures to build the property at 303 W. 21st St., at West 21st Street and Surf Avenue. The studios and one-bedroom apartments will be geared toward homeless veterans and individuals earning less than 60% of the area’s median income.

The development, which will take 18 months to complete, marks the first phase of a project slated to bring more than 400 affordable and market-rate units to the neighborhood. In addition to development, Concern will provide case-management services for residents, as well as vocational training to help veterans in running an onsite bakery.
