Dirt Moves on 4400 Grove Mixed-Income Complex

A ceremonial groundbreaking was held Wednesday for 4400 Grove, a mixed-income development in Bronzeville from Brinshore Development and Michaels. The project, which is supported by $7.2-million tax increment financing from the city, will include 84 market-rate and affordable apartments.

The 4400 Grove site is located on the west side of Cottage Grove Avenue, between 44th and 45th streets. When completed, the new development will create an almost entirely new city block that had sat empty since 2002, when the Washington Park Homes were demolished.

“4400 Grove represents a fresh start for the community,” said Michaels regional VP Greg Olson. The complex was designed by Pappageorge/Haymes.

Along with an outdoor plaza and landscaped park, common area amenities for residents will include a large community room with kitchen, a fitness and yoga room, a shared work center with computers, and indoor bicycle parking.
