Douglas Shorenstein, the leader of San Francisco-based Shorenstein Properties, has passed away at the age of 60. The real estate icon was also formerly the chairman of the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
Shorenstein was pivotal in transforming his local office investing company into a major national name. Shorenstein Properties has reportedly raised and invested $7.9 billion in commercial real estate in the past 20 years, encompassing almost 60 million square feet in 24 markets, including Chicago’s iconic John Hancock Tower, as well as the Park Avenue Tower in New York City.
Over the past five years, Shorenstein was instrumental in the company’s investment in technology-friendly office buildings throughout the San Francisco area. His desire to do good in the world, coupled with his practical approach, made him the leader that he was. His legacy will continue at the hands of his wife, children, and business that carries the family name.
