The first Opportunity Zone investment signed in Texas has officially broken ground at Brooks, the 1,308-acre mixed-use redevelopment of the former Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio. Led by DPR Investments, the 9.4-acre development will include a climate controlled self-storage facility and flex space for small businesses.
“We are excited to get to work on creating these new space and storage options for Southside residents and small business owners,” said DPR owner Jimmy Day. “As the country continues to navigate the economic impacts of the coronavirus, we are following all guidelines to ensure our construction crews are able to work safely.”
DPR estimates the total project cost at $16 million. Boerne-based SBS Construction is serving as the general contractor for the project, which was designed by Dallenbach-Cole Architecture.
Brooks is one of 24 Opportunity Zones in Bexar County, as designated by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in March 2018.
