Facebook plans to develop the largest data center ever built in Central Ohio. The $750-million facility in New Albany will encompass 900,000 square feet, create 100 jobs and be powered entirely by renewable energy.
The first of two buildings is slated to deliver in 2019, with a second facility planned to open in 2020. The deal includes more than $37 million in tax abatement incentives and credits from the state.
The planned data center at Beech Road and State Route 161 is more than four times larger than Columbus’ current largest data center, a 205,000 square foot Cologix Inc. operation. The market already is home to a data center operated by Amazon.
Facebook operates data centers in Oregon, North Carolina and Iowa, has facilities under construction in Fort Worth and Los Lunas, NM, and plans to build another in Papillon, NE.
