The Smith County Commissioners Court recently approved a five-year capital improvements plan. The plan, which will run from fiscal year 2018-2022, is a $3.3-million needs assessment plan, based on a study conducted by Komatsu Architecture.
Two buildings targeted by the plan will be the Cotton Belt Building and the Road and Bridge Building, both in Tyler, TX.
The Cotton Belt Building, at 1527 W. Front St., is 75% vacant. The cost of repair would be $2.3 million, with the most pressing – and expensive – issue being windows replacement. The Road and Bridge Building is at 1700 W. Claude, and will require additional operations space for repair bays and shops.
Other projects slated for repair and/or upgrade include the Smith County Courthouse Annex Building, and the Smith County Jail.
