Five Below’s Aggressive CA Expansion Plan

Bargain retailer Five Below is running counter to the recent contraction and closings being experienced across the retail sector. Led by Orange County native Joel Anderson, Five Below is expanding with a large slate of new stores, and envisions establishing a big presence in California.

Overall, the Philadelphia-based teen retailer plans to quadruple from 549 stores today to some 2,000 stores, with California becoming its largest market.

In SoCal, 12 stores are opening, including Aliso Viejo, Anaheim, Compton, Fontana, Hawthorne, Montebello, Rancho Cucamonga, Redlands, South Gate, San Dimas, Lancaster and South Fontana.

Five Below sells everything for less than $5 in a splashy, bold, fun environment. Items range from arty household goods, assorted knickknacks and electronic gadgets, to sportswear, beach toys and snacks.
