Forest’s City’s 5M, a massive mixed-use project in the SoMa area, has received approval from the San Francisco Planning Commission. The project will go before the Board of Supervisors later this year.
Forest City’s 5M, which is to be built on land owned by the Hearst Corp., will total 688 residential spaces, 631,000 square feet of offices and 34,000 square feet of retail. In order to build office towers taller than zoning requirements currently allow, Forest City will provide affordable housing, non-profit artist areas and 49,000 square feet of open space accessible to the public.
Forest City’s 5M has been in the planning stages for seven years. If it receives all the necessary approvals, the project could be completed by 2026.
