Former Hospital Targeted as Housing for the Homeless

A site that was once home to St. Ann Hospital in Abilene, TX, is on track for conversion into housing for the homeless. Renamed St. Ann’s Place, the project will offer 22 apartments in the property’s existing structure, and 12 additional units in a new building. CitySquare Housing of Dallas is partnering with Abilene’s Highland Church of Christ on the $5-million project at 1350 Cypress St.

The community is scheduled for completion in fall 2020, and will help homeless people find a stable place to live while they get back on their feet. To qualify, potential tenants will need to be homeless, with the amount of rent based on their income. If they have no income, the residents will pay $50 a month. CitySquare indicated it would begin the renovation at the end of this year.
