Brixton Capital is proceeding with redevelopment plans for a former Target shopping center in northwest Chula Vista. The San Diego-based firm, affiliated with Westcore Properties, started construction on Gateway Marketplace, and expects to open the new center in spring of next year.
The developer seeks to bring new retailers and healthier food options to a multi-tenant retail building, as well as two new freestanding multi-tenant pad buildings. Brixton says anchor tenants Hobby Lobby, Aldi Food Market and Party City are on board already, and it is negotiating with another grocer.
The 8.8-acre Gateway Marketplace is located off Highway 54, at Fourth Ave. and C St.
