While Volkswagen’s emissions scandal has cost the company billions of dollars in reparations, its former boss, Mike Winterkorn, took home millions last year.
In September, Winterkorn was forced to resign as the carmaker’s scandal came to light, but he reportedly stepped away from the company with an $8.2 million payout and an additional $1.1 million bonus in his pocket.
He said he was not aware of any wrongdoings, and left after eight years of employment with the automaker.
