Taiwan-based Foxconn Technology Group selected 28 contractors for the initial $100 million phase of construction on a $10 billion flat-screen manufacturing plant in Mount Pleasant, WI. The company hired 27 firms based in Wisconsin, and one from Illinois, for a project expected to be developed into a 22-million-square-foot campus for as many as 13,000 workers.

Included among the work to be performed at the southeast Wisconsin development site is erosion control, mass excavation, storm water management and testing. The first phase of construction is expected to create 800 direct and indirect jobs. Site grading has commenced, which involves moving more than four million cubic yards of dirt.

Gilbane Building Co. and M+W Group are serving as the lead contractors on the plant project. Other companies involved in the project include Michels Corp. and Payne & Dolan, and Hoffman Construction Co.
