Franklin Templeton Launches San Mateo HQ Expansion

Franklin Templeton Investments plans to expand its international headquarters at San Mateo, CA’s Bay Meadows. The investment company is commencing construction this week on a pair of four-story office buildings totaling 245,260 square feet.

Plans include 274 new parking spaces on a nearly 10-acre transit-oriented development site near Hillsdale Boulevard and the Hayward Park Caltrain line. The additions, which were unanimously approved by the city’s Planning Commission, will grow the campus from four to six buildings and completes a HQ development plan initially approved in 1997.

The investment firm moved to San Mateo in 1973 and opened its current offices in 2001 as part of Phase I of Bay Meadows at One Franklin Parkway. The construction timeline is expected to span roughly two years, and when completed will bring Franklin Templeton’s HQ office footprint to 813,683 square feet.
