Franklin, TN Wants Buildings Up, Not Out

To address a shortage of office space, officials with the city of Franklin, TN want to allow buildings as high as 16 stories at its Cool Springs commercial hub. The current maximum cap is 12 stories.

The proposed height boost would allow longtime developer Pat Emery to build taller buildings in his Cool Springs development at Exit 67 on Interstate 65. It would also let Boyle Investment Co. to go taller at its Berry Farms mixed-use development, just south of Cool Springs.

The suggestion to raise building heights is in “Envision Franklin,” a 150-page document that is a proposed update to the city’s land-use policy. The city is planning public meetings on the draft plan on Sept. 26-27 and hopes to have the planning commission create a final framework by December.
