Future of Office: Shipping Containers

Campsyte introduced a less-expensive alternative to San Francisco’s pricy office space. The company leases office space in shipping containers to startups from a parking lot, and offers landowners the option to rent out properties for modular relocatable buildings.

The rents range from roughly $30 per hour to $150 per day, or $3,200 a month for short-term leases. Typically, office space in The City leases out for $70 per square foot.

Campsyte finds more productive uses for underutilized lots. The temporary shipping containers are refitted with sound-proofing, and offer Wi-Fi, heat and air conditioning. The structures are earthquake-ready, and the company says they can be stacked and are easily removable for future development.
