Galveston Developer Wins Border Wall Contract

SLSCO Ltd., a contractor in Galveston, TX, was awarded the first new-wall construction contract under President  Trump’s Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements executive order. The developer will receive $145 million from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Army Corps of Engineers to build a six-mile piece of a border-levee wall system in Hidalgo County.

The contract calls for construction and installation of “tactical infrastructure,” which includes various tasks, such as building a reinforced concrete levee wall to the height of the existing levee, and installation of detection technology, lighting and a video surveillance system. The project is controlled by CBP’s McAllen Station, which oversees 53 miles of border along the Rio Grande River.

Construction on the project is scheduled to begin in February 2019.
