For 20 years in the US and 5 in Asia, Deutsche Bank has organized an annual Women in Business conference. On September 22 in Singapore, it was themed “Men Matter.”
Although it seems contradictory at first, the point of highlighting men in business, who still hold the majority of positions of power, allows for them to “lead the charge” in promoting equality. Despite some backlash on social media aimed at Deutsche Bank for using the hashtag, #MenMatter, gender consulting firms like 20-first stress the necessity of men’s help in achieving gender equality.
As companies in finance adopt this approach, the day may come when there are no longer conferences addressing gender equality, as it’ll be the norm in the workplace.
