Amazon may have drones and a logistics trucking service in the pipeline, but Google filed a patent for an autonomous delivery system this week. The driverless trucks would be equipped with lockers and PINs that the recipient would use to open and retrieve their delivery.
Trucks would continue on their route after the package is delivered, and reload at outposts. They would reportedly include cameras and laser range finders to monitor traffic, a communication system to contact a controller, and detailed GPS systems to navigate the roads.
This technology adds to Google’s driverless cars, and its 2017 expected drone delivery service, Project Wing.
