Google has started to occupy its South Lake Union campus, which encompasses four, six-story buildings. The 607,000-square-foot Lakefront Blocks complex at 625-630 Boren Ave. N. was developed by Vulcan Real Estate.

The initial phase of the project opened and another building is slated to open later this month. The company says the Puget Sound now ranks as one of its largest engineering centers in the U.S. The tech giant’s Seattle office footprint now approaches two million square feet, and its employee count has mushroomed to roughly 4,500 employees.

The new campus is spread across two blocks between Mercer Avenue and Valley Street, and includes roughly 14,000 square feet of ground-level retail. The overall Vulcan project also includes a pair of residential towers with 149 apartments. Another 12-story office tower is planned to deliver by mid-2021 on an adjacent block that Google has also claimed, which would boost its SLU presence to roughly 930,000 square feet.
