Mickey Mouse may have some competition. In a region inundated by theme parks, the Great Wolf Lodge Southern California is opening its doors in Garden Grove this week.
The $250 million indoor water park, developed by McWhinney Enterprises, features a 603-suite hotel, water-basketball pool, lazy river, arcade, spa, miniature golf and more. The 105,000 square foot water park is designed for hotel guests, but guests can invite visitors for $40 each to join them at the 84-degree indoor attraction.
While the selling point of an indoor waterpark is attractive to its original Midwestern supporters, some question whether or not the “always sunny” weather in California will dry up the chain’s chances of success.
