San Antonio-headquartered grocery company H-E-B announced it would invest a record $200 million in South Austin stores during 2020. The investment will include the opening of three new stores, a major remodel of an existing location and hiring of more than 1,000 new employees.

“Next year, we will showcase an unprecedented investment in new stores across the greater Austin area, especially in South Austin where our customers will soon be receiving the best and most advanced shopping experience H-E-B has to offer,” said H-E-B’s Jeff Thomas.

Two of the South Austin projects are in the planning stages (Oak Hill and South Congress), which will replace already existing stores, with the 130,000-square-foot Slaughter Lane and Interstate 35 store currently under construction and scheduled to open in March 2020. Additionally, the Riverside H-E-B plus! is undergoing major renovations to add more than 7,000 square feet to its current footprint. Completion is expected for early next year.
